The Role

A Technical Architect is a client-facing role that will require the candidate to use their business analysis and solution architecting knowledge & skill-sets to assist Distributed in assessing client engagement opportunities, creating necessary technical pre-sales artefacts, and successfully closing viable sales leads.

Responsibilities

• Lead the process of technical discovery for sales opportunities, coordinating internal business development, sales, engineering and other relevant teams throughout the sales qualification process to complete preliminary technical discovery.
• Converse (typically, but not necessarily, virtually) with clients & potential clients to help Distributed elicit, understand and assess wants, needs and constraints.
• Make an assessment of Distributed’s technical capacity to deliver what a client needs and wants and communicate that to internal stakeholders.
• Draft high-level technical solution proposals on a client-by-client basis, which may involve:
  • Summarising at a high level: client’s requirements, client’s existing systems and infrastructure, the relationships and dependencies between systems and requirements, resources required, assumptions, risks and decisions - particularly those of a technical nature - to be borne in mind
  • Provision of notes and technical diagrams to aid the presentation of possible solutions to clients
• Effectively explain technical solution proposals to stakeholders and clients on a case-by-case basis, in particular:
  • Clients who may have limited technical knowledge
  • Clients who may be extremely technically proficient
  • Distributed’s technical architects and leads who would set up and oversee technical efforts to deliver your solutions

Requirements

• Vast experience with software systems development or solution architecture, or enterprise architecture practices.
• Applicable knowledge of software systems requirements gathering & design methodologies.
• Good level understanding of software development methodologies and practices, such as CI/CD, QA, peer review, manual testing, automated testing, TDD, and devOps.
• Good understanding of software project and programme management methodologies & frameworks, such as Waterfall, Scrum, Kanban, SAFe.
• Knowledge of typical service offerings in at least one of AWS, Azure and GCP, as well as how services may be combined to deliver a solution.
• The ability to estimate with some degree of confidence the complexity and cost of solutions you devise.
• An exceptional ability to explain technical matters (including technologies, processes and justifications for estimations pertaining to your solution proposals) in writing, pictorially and verbally.
• A proactive and pragmatic approach to work; deliver independently & collaboratively to tight deadlines and communicate effectively ASAP when that’s not possible.

Good to have:

• Detailed knowledge of typical service offerings in more than one of AWS, Azure and GCP, as well as how services may be combined to deliver a solution
• Some knowledge of UX design principles, constraints and concerns
• AWS, Azure or GCP associate or higher certifications
